Bioscience Lite: teaching genomics in the classroom

Supporting teachers' professional development, knowledge and confidence in teaching genomics topics in the classroom

Bioscience Lite is an online CPD programme designed to support teachers’ understanding and confidence of genomics, biology and biodata topics.

The programme has two main elements – an online talk series, and a free online learning portal.  We recommend that you allow 3 hours per month to attend the talks and try out resources, but the programme is flexible and once registered you can dip in and out at times to suit your needs.

Online talk series

Live Bioscience Lite online talks will occur once per month, on Thursday from 5:00-6:15pm. The session will include a talk from a scientist from the Wellcome Genome Campus, time for a Q&A with the scientist, resource and teaching technique discussion between Bioscience Lite community members and members of the Science Engagement team. The talks will cover a range of topics in genomics, biology and data science, such as CRISPR, Genomics Surveillance and Protein Folding AI Software. These talks will also be recorded and made available for anyone unable to attend live.

The talk topics will largely match the topics being covered in Genomics Lite – our webinar series for upper secondary students – giving both you and your students the opportunity to learn about and hear from scientists working in the field.
