Session overview
Communities are an important target audience and the cornerstone of many of our activities. So how do we decide which communities to focus on and how do we reach out to them? What do we need to consider when working with them -because if we want to embed public engagement in our research, we have to be able to work with communities who can impact our work and vice versa
In this session, Kim Aumann will remind us of the key principles that underpin effective community engagement, help us consider the skills we need for partnering with community organisations well, and draw on case study examples for us to unravel challenging dynamics that can arise when doing community university research partnership work.
Who is this for?
This course is for anyone taking up a project in Public Engagement who wants to make sure it is targeting the correct audience. It’s also a great session for anyone wanting to start in Public Engagement, as connecting with communities is an essential part of the public engagement process. Members of Campus with an Enabling Fund or who are looking to apply for one are strongly encouraged to join this session.

In your Enabling Fund application. In all your public engagement experiences and activities.
It will also be applicable in gran submissions if you are asked to explain your public engagement skills and experience, reaching out and working alongside communities is essential for any public engagement project or activity.
