Downham Market Library, 78 Priory Rd, Downham Market, PE38 9JS

Date:

Thu 12th Mar, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm

On Thursday 12th March, join teams from the Wellcome Genome Campus for a day exploring the science of genomics. What is DNA? What does it do? How does it impact on each of us every day? There will be fun activity stands around the library, between 11am and 5pm, all exploring the work that is happening right now to better understand DNA and to unlock the knowledge within the book of life.

The Wellcome Genome Campus (based near the village of Hinxton, south of Cambridge) is a world leading genomic research campus which is home to the Wellcome Sanger Institute and EMBL-European Bioinformatics Institute. Together these institutes are committed to delivering life-changing science with the reach, scale and imagination to solve some of humanity’s greatest challenges.

Around the event there will also be a book trail around the library. Pick up a trail guide and hunt down the genomic volumes found throughout the library. Inside each will be facts and activities relating to different aspects of genomics. Find them all, check out the contents, and note down the hidden symbols! Come and have a go between March 2nd and April 19th.

Sadly the ‘After hours talk at the library’ that was due to take place at 7:30pm on Thursday 12th March has been cancelled.
