My STEMM Future (previously Black STEMM Future) is a joint initiative from Wellcome Connecting Science and the Youth STEMM Award (YSA). The project seeks to support students from background historically excluded from STEM in completing a Youth STEMM Bronze or Silver Award and develop a portfolio of achievements to support Sixth Form, University or workplace applications.
The My STEMM Future programme provides funding for students to enrol and complete the Award, support for teachers in monitoring and signing off activities on the YSA’s ePortfolio, digital resources linked to genomics and bioscience topics, careers webinars and videos, and visits to the Wellcome Genome Campus – all of which count towards students’ Awards.
In 2022, My STEMM Future was nominated in the STEM Initiative of the Year category in the Cambridge Independent’s Science and Technology Awards.
What is the Youth STEMM Award?
The Youth STEMM Award (YSA) is a skills award to support and inspire the next generation into STEMM (science, technology, engineering, maths and medicine). Their mission is to encourage a much wider participation in STEMM and increase the diversity of our future workforce. The YSA provides a framework to add impact and greater legacy to stand alone STEMM outreach activities while building confidence and a sense of achievement.
“The YSA has helped me greatly as it helped me improve my confidence, time management and communication skills.” – Black STEMM Future Alumni
